Truth will come around
Am I performing here?
And I'm not wrong
Not at all
Conscious of a crowd
Fearlessly failed trying
And they're not wrong
Not at all
You keep telling me it's time to move
You keep waiting for me to prove
We speak, we speak
You keep telling me all these things are true
I keep
Stupid and profound
Too much attention here it's a metaphor
For life, as show
Truth will come around am I performing here? You're not wrong
Not at all
You keep telling me it's time to move
You keep waiting for me to prove
We speak, we speak
You keep telling me all these things are true
I keep
I keep waiting for you to soothe
When we sleep, we sleep
We feel certain of all of the things that we do
about
Hot on the heels of his laid-back, funk-oozing single ’Night Is All There Is’, Amsterdam-based songwriter Saux, who's also one half of ‘fuzzy R&B’ duo City Park, returns to Boogie Angst this summer with ‘You’re Not Wrong’. A next step in the sound that's coming from the producer-singer, it's a sweeping and catchy tune envisioning in-limbo places and moments.
Bathed in a cinematic scenario of sorts, ‘You’re Not Wrong’ merges the upliftingness of disco and 80s indie and quiet storm, custom-cut to harbour Saux’s brittle vocals and feels-conducting guitar riffs. The result is a lavishly seductive song, full with woozy pads, subtly inlaid organ chords and a drum groove sure to resonate.
Saux, on the song at hand: '’You're Not Wrong' plays around with the idea of 'being-as-playing-a-role'. The lively belief there's always an unseen audience present, captured in lyrics like 'Am I performing here?' and 'Too much attention here'. It's an emotion I strongly relate to personally and found well-explained in an essay by Jia Tolentino”. And: “Musically the song's foundations are a mix of my influences ranging from 80s disco and new wave to more recent acts like Tennis or Francis & The Lights. The song leans on a Farfisa pad, a guitar riff and a uptempo triplet groove."
